Highlands Ranch is a master-planned community that was started in 1981, spans 22,000 acres and is home to nearly 97,000 residents. Located in unincorporated Douglas County just 12 miles south of Denver, it has repeatedly been recognized among the top areas to live in the United States.

Since the community is relatively new, Highlands Ranch real estate is made up of newer residences of all types. With prices ranging from about $200,000 to more than $1 million, housing options include townhomes and condominiums, as well as smaller, single family homes up to large, million dollar plus homes.

The area’s neighborhoods, abundance of recreational opportunities, prestigious school district and growing business community make Highlands Ranch a great place to live and work, as well as raise a family and live an active lifestyle.

Highlands Ranch has four recreation centers, complete with pools, indoor sports courts, outdoor tennis courts, exercise and weight rooms; a major tennis facility at Lebsack Tennis Center; and two skate parks for boarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers.

The community also is home to two golf courses, about two dozen parks, batting cages and baseball fields, off-leash dog areas, and walking trails, all of which give residents with all sorts of interests a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Colorado.

Additionally, there are many family-oriented activities and community events scheduled throughout the year by the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HCA) and the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Associations (CAA). Included in the more than 100 annual events are Highlands Ranch Days, an Arts Festival, Concert Series, Film in the Park on Fridays in August, Oktoberfest, and celebrations for the Fourth of July, Easter and Christmas – just to name a few.

In addition to the area’s family-oriented lifestyle, the highly-acclaimed Douglas County School District and private school options make Highlands Ranch particularly popular with families.

The Douglas County School District has more than two dozen schools serving the area, including the traditional elementary, middle and high schools, in addition to charter and alternative schools.

Private school options include elementary education offered at Highlands Ranch Christian School and Cherry Hills Community Church, as well as Valor Christian High School.
